Silver Buffalo Rounds reproduce the famous design created by James Earle Fraser for the Buffalo Nickel coin, also known as the Indian Head Nickel or the Silver Buffalo coin. A reviewed version of this classic design also stamps the 24k Gold Buffalo Coin. The obverse depicts a Native American bust that joins the characteristics of three important Indian tribes: the Two Moons, the Iron Tail, and the Big Tree. The only inscription on this side is “LIBERTY,” which arches in front of the Indian’s face. The reverse design corresponds to the image that names the piece. It is the image of an American Bison, resembling a Buffalo, hence the moniker. On the upper rim, the engravings describe the round’s weight of 1 oz silver, and on the bottom, they express purity and metal content.
